First Listen: Migos "Culture II"

The Migos are a hip-hop group from Lawrenceville, GA formed in 2009. The trio is composed of Quavos (Quavious Keyate Marshall) Takeoff (Kirsnick Khari Ball) and Offset (Kiari Kendrell Cephus) originally they were known as Polo Club. All three members are directly related. Quavo is Takeoff's uncle, and Offset is Quavo's cousin. The three of them grew up together in Gwinnett County, a mostly suburban area half an hour northeast of Atlanta.
Migos released their first mixtape “Juug Season” in 2011, then followed up “No Label” in 2012. In 2013 The Migos released their breakout single “Versace” which was their first song to make it to the Billboard Hot 100 Chart peaking at number 99. Later that year the song got a huge boost in popularity when Drake remixed the song adding a verse and performed at the 2013 iHeartRadio Music Festival.

After a series of highly successful mixtapes “Y.R.N.” “No Label 2” “Y.R.N. 2” the released the their first commercial album “Culture”. Culture debuted #1 on the Billboard 200 and Top R&B\Hip-Hop Albums chart and went on to sell over a million copies and was nominated for Best Rap Album at the 60th Annual Grammy Awards. The album spawned 3 singles including the massive hit “Bad and Boujee” which went to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles charts and sold over 4,000,000 copies.

Culture made Migos hip-hop superstars but also brought them international fame and celebrity. With NFL players Odell Beckham Jr and Cam Newton doing the Migos signature dance dabbing!
There was major anticipation for the follow up to Culture and Migos being very smart went right back in the studio to strike while the fire is hot! I have studied music for 25 years and I never understood why hot artists don’t capitalize when they are on a hot streak of releasing quality material. I don’t care who the artist is, the hot streak ends for EVERYBODY! Make the most of it while you have it and Migos did that!
They had the who’s who of superstar hip-hop producers wanting to work with the group; Murda BeatzMetro Boomin, Buddah Bless, Pharrell Williams, Mike Dean, DJ Durel, Quavo and Kanye West all produced tracks for “Culture II”
Culture II was released on January 26, 2018. It debuted #1 on the Billboard 200 album chart and has spawned 3 hit singles including another massive hit “Walk It Talk It featuring Drake” Migos shows a lot of growth on Culture II. Offset has developed lyrically and has a lot more charisma as was on display in the video for Walk It Talk It.
Right now the Migos are riding high off of the success of Culture II, network television appearances and a promotional tour. Though only 3 months into 2018 Culture is by far the best hip-hop of the year with at least 2-3 more singles/videos to be released! They followed up the biggest album of their career Culture, with an even better album Culture II! That says a lot about their work ethic and their commitment as artists! Let’s enjoy Migos and see what the rest of 2018 has in store for them.
